16. Christianity is the Ultimate Rebellion

In the early days of Christianity, followers of Christ had to have great courage to believe, since doing so could lead to death. Today, Christianity is not well-considered by society and therefore to be a Christian is an act of rebellion, as Rev Nicky Gumbel, the pioneer of the Alpha Course, explains in this episode of Into the Truth. The challenge for Christians today is to bravely speak our counter-cultural message. “If we simply mouth the same platitudes as the culture,” he says, “what is there that’s distinctive about our faith?”
