Description
Encouragement and charitable, practical advice for parents navigating the important, but often difficult, task of bringing a young family to Sunday Mass.
"Every Sunday at Mass we visit Our Lord Jesus Christ: we hear His Word proclaimed in the readings, and we worship and adore Him in the Eucharist. As Christian parents, we naturally want to bring our children with us because we know that being near Jesus is good for them. When Jesus was on earth, parents brought their young children to meet Him and be blessed by Him – Luke’s Gospel tells us ‘even infants’. Sadly, the Gospels say the disciples ‘rebuked’ these parents. Perhaps they thought the children were too noisy or misbehaved. Perhaps they thought meeting Jesus was only for people old enough to fully understand who He was. Whatever their reasons, however, Jesus did not agree. The Gospel of Mark tells us that He was ‘indignant’ and called the little children to him despite the disciples’ objections (Mark 10:14)."
