Pope Leo XIV
On 8th May 2025, Cardinal Robert Francis Prevost became the 267th Pope. Now Pope Leo XIV, he is the first Pope born the United States, the first Augustinian Pope, and is also a citizen of Peru, where he spent many years as a missionary.
In honour of his Papacy, CTS is proud to present you with several new publications: two posters (A3 and A4), a prayer card, and a reprint of the 19th-century encyclical Rerum Novarum by Pope Leo XIII, which inspired Pope Leo XIV’s name. Coming soon: we hope to bring you an updated biography of St Augustine and a life of Pope Leo XIV himself – register your interest in these items by scrolling to the bottom of this page!
NEW: Publications for Pope Leo XIV
Why did Pope Leo XIV choose his name?
“I chose to take the name Leo XIV… mainly because Pope Leo XIII in his historic Encyclical Rerum Novarum addressed the social question in the context of the first great industrial revolution. In our own day, the Church offers to everyone the treasury of her social teaching in response to another industrial revolution and to developments in the field of artificial intelligence that pose new challenges for the defence of human dignity, justice and labour.”
