The Jesus Prayer is the most popular devotional prayer in the Orthodox Church and increasingly popular in the West. A simple and direct method of invoking the mercy of Jesus Christ by repeating his Holy Name, it is a way of obeying St Paul’s instruction to “pray always”. In an increasingly noisy and frenetic world, the Jesus Prayer offers us an oasis of inner peace and a lifeline back to God.
Kallistos Ware, Bishop of Diokleia, is the best-known exponent of Orthodoxy in the UK and has a lifetime of experience teaching the Prayer.
Thanks for your review!
Brilliantly explained. The Jesus prayer should be adopted in our everyday lives.
A historical look at the Jesus Prayer, how it developed, what it means theologically and how to practice it. I personally found this small booklet helpful for my own praying, and how to form the idea and attitude which makes praying helpful and meaningful.
To tell the essentials of the prayer of Jesus, Bishop Kallistos has not had any need to use more space. This is the most complete, clear and concise presentation of the practice of the prayer of Jesus that I have come across. Fully recommended for just as well beginners as for those who have been practicing a longer time.
Thoughtful little book that is helping me and some people I know to overcome difficulties in life.
